google-uvGoogle introduced Hangouts to the masses some time in the middle of last year on an official basis, and Hangouts played the role of being a replacement for Google Talk, and it has since worn the hat of being Google’s official instant messaging app. Well, Hangouts hasn’t really seen an explosive rate of adoption since then, but this has not stopped Google from introducing updates to the service, including SMS support and merged conversations. Having said that, it looks as though a new and improved Google Hangouts is on its way, carrying the code name ‘Ultra Violet’.

The images that you see above are made available courtesy of a certain Florian Kiersch, where ‘Ultra Violet’ is deemed to deliver a slew of refreshed design elements in addition to a new Chrome extension. The extension looks set to reside on a user’s desktop, and also has the capability of being moved around freely. It will also be the place where some Chat Heads-style icons reside, being a visual representation of an actual user’s conversation.

Whenever a chat is selected, the user will be “ushered” to a chat window that looks pretty much the same as that of what Hangouts currently offers. Needless to say, ‘Ultra Violet’ is being tested at the moment, without any concrete word of a potential release date.
