There has been no shortage of rumors about Microsoft working on a smartwatch and its not downright impossible since almost all of its competitors have jumped on this bandwagon. It may only be a matter of time before Redmond marches out with its own smartwatch. Until that happens we must make do with rumors and speculation. A designer has created a concept Microsoft smartwatch which looks much more like a conventional watch while leaning heavily on Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant.

The designer, Nadir Aslam, envisages Microsoft’s wearable device as having a round design, one that’s actually quite similar to Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch. However unlike the latter’s display the one in this concept is truly round like one you would find on a conventional wristwatch.

This concept puts Cortana in the spotlight. A major feature of Windows Phone 8.1, Cortana is Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant that is expected to be integrated in Windows 9 as well. It really wouldn’t surprise anyone if Microsoft decided to use Cortana to aid its smartwatch users who would be able to use the assistant to quickly get a lot of things done.

While there’s no doubt that the artist has put a lot of detail in this concept, it is a concept nonetheless. There’s no guarantee that Microsoft’s smartwatch would look anything remotely like this so its just best to keep your fingers crossed for now.
