samsung-gear-vrEarlier last month, we did bring you one of the very first few images of Samsung’s upcoming virtual reality headset, which has since been called the Samsung Gear VR, alongside possible app screenshots making their way to news portals not too long after. It has been speculated that the Samsung Gear VR will be announced at IFA 2014 in Berlin, Germany, in due time, hence it is not surprising to see what looks like the Gear VR in the flesh as seen above.

The image shows off the Samsung Gear VR that sports a dial – presumably meant to help the user maintain some focus, of course, while there is also a USB port which will enable the headset to synchronize with a compatible Samsung smartphone. It will be the very same smartphone which will dock alongside the Gear VR in order for it to deliver a virtual reality experience for the wearer, while a lid will ensure that the handset remains where it is supposed to be.

So far, other known hardware specifications of the Samsung Gear VR include an OLED display as well as a touchpad, while there is also an accelerometer and gyroscope thrown into the mix to help the device orient itself. The back camera of the smartphone will be able to deliver relevant video images, while it is the phone’s processing muscle that will drive content to the Samsung Gear VR. As part of the sample, a flagship Galaxy S5 was in action – we would not have expected anything less, anyways.
