Sony is slowly but surely rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat for its devices. Over the past couple of months the company has regularly provided updates on this process and most of its supported devices are now running on the latest versions of Android. Next in line are the Xperia E1 and the Xperia E1 dual. The company has confirmed in an official blog post that both these devices are now receiving the Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Everything that we have come to expect from Android 4.4 KitKat is going to be included in this update, KitKat primarily brings some performance improvements and user interface tweaks. Sony has also made some changes to its custom software to improve the overall user experience.

The update will add Sony’s tweaked status bar and quick settings to Xperia E1 and E1 dual. They’re more intuitive and customisable and cleaned up to ensure that users only get the notifications they need. The updated user interface will feel familiar to those who own a PlayStation 4 as it brings the same launch animation and live wallpaper across home and lock screens.

Through this update Sony now allows users to move apps from internal memory to the external memory card. The company has also updated its entire native app portfolio which includes Messaging, Smart Connect, Sony Select, Battery STAMINA Mode and more.

The update is rolling out in stages and its availability may vary by region and carrier, though it shouldn’t take more than a couple of days for it to go live across all markets.
