macbook_air_2013_3-800x270The MacBook Air is a pretty thin as far as laptops are concerned, but apparently Apple thinks that they could go even thinner. According to a recent report from DigiTimes (via MacRumors), word on the street has it that Apple could be thinking about creating a new thinner MacBook laptop that could see a release by the end of the year or early next year.

Unfortunately the report did not mention how thin it would be, and if it could be thinner than the current MacBook Air laptops or if they meant that it would be a thinner version of the MacBook Pro lineup. However the report claims that Apple will cease production of the 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro by the end of the year, suggesting that perhaps this new laptop could take its place.

Now we have heard several rumors about Apple’s plans for their MacBook lineup. One of the rumors included a possible 12-inch MacBook Air that would be a happy middle between the 11-inch and 13-inch model. The rumor also claimed that production would kick off in Q3 2014 which seems to line up with DigiTimes’ report.

To corroborate the claims, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also stated earlier in the year that he expects Apple to release a 12-inch new design ultra slim MacBook. The new laptop will apparently sport a new cooling system and a button-less trackpad design. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if you’re in the market for a new laptop, perhaps this could be worth keeping an eye out for.
