toshiba-5tbToshiba has certainly been involved in the world of storage systems in the past, where they do cater to home based solutions as well as enterprise ones. This time around, Toshiba’s latest MD04ABA-V Series was launched, where it will bring along with it the company’s very first 5TB 3.5”, low RPM hard disk drive (HDD) that was specially developed for those who would want something reliable in the world of surveillance applications. In fact, the Toshiba MD04ABA-V series was concocted to see action in the likes of surveillance digital video recorders (SDVR), surveillance network video recorders (SNVR) and hybrid SDVR.

Just how capable is the Toshiba MD04ABA-V series? For starters, it is able to handle surveillance applications that offer support for up to 32 high definition cameras, now how about that for reliability and flexibility? In fact, this particular Series supports 24/7 operation, and will also incorporate rotational vibration (RV) sensors so that it ends up as suitable for action in RAID/multi-HDD based surveillance platforms.

With a generous 5TB of storage space, customers are now able to retain higher resolution surveillance video data for longer periods with a lesser number of hard drives, so that in the long run, this will result in a smaller storage footprint and of course, lower energy costs. [Press Release]
