Over the past few months we have been constantly hearing rumors that Apple is working on a 12-inch MacBook with Retina display which its going to unveil later this year. Word on the street is that this notebook might be unveiled at the company’s iPad event in October, though there’s no official confirmation of that. Until the announcement happens the rumors will keep coming in and the latest suggests that Apple’s 12-inch MacBook is going to have support for reversible USB Type C.
Time and again it has been rumored that the 12-inch MacBook is going to be thinner and lighter than all Apple notebooks because it is based on a fanless design, powered by ultra low-power processors the likes of Broadwell-Y Core M from Intel.
In order to slim down the notebook even more Apple is rumored to sacrifice the standard USB ports and replace them with reversible USB Type C. It is claimed that an adapter will be included in every box for backwards compatibility.
An obvious advantage with reversible USB Type C is that users won’t need to fumble around with whatever they’re trying to plug in the USB port as it would be able to accept it either way. Backwards compatibility may be an issue though since this new USB standard isn’t really that widespread as of now.
As far as the design is concerned it is believed that this MacBook will be narrower than the existing MacBook Air, and that it will have significantly slimmer display bezels. Its keyboard will reportedly stretch out to the edges of the notebook and the speakers may be positioned above the keyboard itself with visible grilles.
Pricing and availability information has not even been rumored as of now so its nearly impossible to say when this new MacBook will hit the market and how much it will end up costing customers.
