AT&T’s smartphone lineup is filled with Lumia devices from Nokia, though the devices now come under Microsoft’s devices business. Nonetheless the carrier has a good track record when it comes to releasing latest Windows Phone updates for these devices. It first released Windows Phone 8.1 for the Lumia 1520 back in July and today AT&T has announced that it is releasing Windows Phone 8.1 for the Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920.

This is certainly one of the most important updates for Windows Phone owners as it brings some popular new features. Cortana is a prime example. Microsoft’s virtual private assistant was unveiled back at the BUILD 2014 conference earlier this year and it has gradually made its way to supported Lumia devices. Now Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 on AT&T finally get Cortana.

Windows Phone 8.1 is also big on personalization. It features Live Tiles with multiple sizes, colors and transparency options. Apps, music and people can be pinned to the Start Screen. Various services and products are consolidated under the One Windows banner, this includes OneDrive, Skype, Office and Bing, across all platforms Microsoft’s serves with its software.

AT&T is rolling out the Windows Phone 8.1 update for Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 over the air. Make sure the device is at least 50 percent charged then head on over to the Settings Live Tile and tap on Phone Update.
