china gamblingWhile most of us associate with arcades as a place we go to have fun and play video games, it seems that over in China there are some who associate arcades with gambling which is apparently a huge problem to the point where at one point in time, China went about ordering a massive destruction of arcade cabinets in hopes that it would prevent people from visiting arcades and gambling.

In fact just last week it was reported that Shanghai police had raided a gambling den where twelve men were arrested in the process. Well in hopes of preventing similar situations in the future and perhaps to allow authorities to act swiftly, a report from the Shanghai Morning Post has revealed that black boxes will now be installed inside arcade machines.

This will be done by Shanghai’s public security who have gotten in touch with Chinese arcade manufacturers to install the black boxes inside the new arcade machines. The black boxes will be similar to the ones in airplanes in which it will be able to detect when there have been unauthorized changes made to the cabinet.

For example if hardware has been tampered with or maybe when the original game software has been wiped in favor of a gambling application, after which it will be able to dial out to public security to alert them to it.
