sangriaSure, Amazon might have wowed the masses earlier this afternoon with a slew of Kindle releases, namely the Kindle Voyage leading the line, coupled with updated Kindle Fire e-readers. However, having good hardware would not be of much use, if there is no equivalent software to help you along. Amazon knows this, which is why they have decided to update the software which powers their range of tablets and smartphones, calling it the Fire OS 4 “Sangria” that is based on Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system. Similar to the previous versions of the operating system, this one will carry with it a distinctly Amazon design.

In fact, you will not be able to tell whether this is a Google platform, since from the home screen, all the way to the settings panel and other components are distinctly Amazon – just like the app, music, video, and book stores, too. Expect Fire OS 4 “Sangria” to ship alongside the 4th generation Kindle Fire tablets, where it will be made available as a free over-the-air (OTA) update for the third generation tablets to boot.

Fire OS 4 will see support for profiles thrown into the mix, which will enable various members of your family to gain access to their very own home screens, Facebook or Twitter accounts, all on the same tablet, for a less messy user experience. [Press Release]
