firefighting-droneWhile drones do come in pretty handy to provide an eagle’s eye view of a particular place, how about taking things another step further in a different direction by making sure that this drone will not only be able to check things out visually from above, but also to help out in an emergency, especially where fires are concerned? This is what students from the Ajman University of Science and Technology (AUST) have come up with – a firefighting drone that will hopefully be able to help out the Ajman Civil Defence.

This particular drone will run on full autopilot, has been specially designed and programmed to deliver intelligence so that the right kind of help can arrive for the victim(s) by sending coordinates to fire fighters. Relying on the integrated GPS in order to fly pre-determined flight paths, it has the ability to stream live video – night vision included, as well as audio straight from a particular scene, making it handy to survey fires in high rise buildings or to locate a lost person across a vast expanse of land.

All the data collected are sent to a Windows Phone device, where the controllers manning it will then be able to pinpoint the exact location of someone trapped in a burning building. Not only that, it can be equipped with smoke and gas sensors to booot.
