intel-eink-laptopDual screen displays can be said to be a novelty still, and when Nintendo first introduced the Nintendo DS, many people laughed at it, comparing the poorer hardware specifications compared to the Sony PSP at that point in time to be the death knell for Nintendo. Actually, the Nintendo DS eventually proved to be a runaway success, simply because the dual screens opened up a whole new way of playing games, and there were fantastic gaming experiences that only a touchscreen display and a stylus could provide, such as Elite Beat Agents. Having said that, it seems that notebooks might be headed in a similar direction soon.

What you see above happens to be a prototype laptop from Intel that will carry a screen on either side of the lid, and it remains a prototype for now. There is one major difference, however, as the screen on the outside happens to be a far smaller one in size, alongside having a low power E Ink configuration that will do its bit to help reduce the amount of dependence on the laptop’s battery, which is always a good think.

In other words, this prototype laptop could actually show off display notes, eBooks as well as different kinds of content even if the notebook happens to be in a sleep or hibernate mode – or even if you decide to turn it of outright. This allows the laptop to receive online updates from time to time courtesy of Intel’s connected standby feature even if it is hibernating, or perhaps you can use it to display a grayscale image of your sweetheart?
