Motorola’s much awaited successor to the Moto X (2013) was finally unveiled earlier this month. The company showed off the new smartphone, simply called Moto X (2014), on September 4th and announced that it will be available for pre-order starting September 16th. At that day the unlocked and AT&T variant went up for pre-order. Now reports are coming in that the first batch of pre-orders have started shipping.

Customers had the option of purchasing the device through Moto Maker if they didn’t go through the carrier’s website, also the unlocked versions are available there. When a pre-order was placed through Moto Maker it provided an estimated delivery date of September 26th. Shipment notifications for some customers have gone out today meaning that the unit may very well arrive on time, if not before.

The assumption right now is that shipment notifications are only being sent out to those customers there were quick in placing their pre-orders on the very day Motorola started accepting them. Those who had placed an order after a couple of days are yet to receive their shipping notification.

Rumor has it that on September 26th the Moto X (2014) will also be available for purchase through Verizon’s retail stores and that the carrier’s option will be added to Moto Maker as well.
