On the eve of IFA 2014 in Berlin today Sony unveiled two new smartphones that we have already seen and heard a lot about. Today the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact were formally announced. They feature respectable specifications in sturdy build with Sony’s signature dustproof and waterproof certifications. There’s something unique about them as well. Both smartphones are the first to have support for PS4 Remote Play.

The way PS4 Remote Play works on Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact is that users will require the GCM10 Game Control Mount that was also announced today. This mount connects the device to the PlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 controller.

PS4 Remote Play will come in handy when you want to play games on your console without having to turn on the television. This isn’t designed as a portable gaming solution of any sort, don’t expect to play games off of your PS4 in the park, but will work just fine when you’re on the porcelain throne.

The console will detect the device itself when both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Those who don’t want to stream games don’t require the controller if they only want to watch the gameplay stream of a friend, or chat with them or even purchase and download new titles via the PlayStation Store.
