ps4-xbox-one-pre-orderGiven the competition between Sony and Microsoft for console dominance, we’re sure many are wondering how Microsoft’s Xbox One is faring now that Microsoft has officially knocked $100 off its price tag, putting it squarely in the price of the Sony PlayStation 4. So for the month of August, how has the Xbox One fared? Has it finally managed to catch up to the PS4 in terms of sales in the US?

Well unfortunately for Microsoft and fans of the Xbox One console, it does not look like that is the case. The latest figures released by NPD, it seems that Sony is still maintaining their lead in the US market as the PS4 has managed to outsell the Xbox One once again. Unfortunately the NPD did not release any specific figures, but Venture Beat has since reached out to Sony and Microsoft to comment.

According to Sony’s PlayStation Senior Vice President Guy Longworth, “PlayStation 4 was No. 1 in hardware sales for the eighth consecutive month. And it remains the cumulative leader for new-generation game consoles.” While Microsoft didn’t exactly acknowledge that Sony had them beat, they did mention that sales are up from the month before.

Microsoft’s statement reads, “Xbox One sales are on a positive trajectory, nearly doubling sales in August in the U.S. compared to July due in part to strong demand for the Xbox One Madden NFL 15 bundle.” Will Microsoft eventually play catch up to the PS4? We guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
