Well it seems that Square, instead of trying to compete with Apple, has instead opted to embrace them.

According to Square co-founder Jack Dorsey, it seems that his company is looking to build a new register for sellers that will be able to accept Apple Pay as well as a myriad of other payment methods. That being said, Square does not seem to think that Apple is a competitor as they both build different products.

“We’re building a register so that sellers can accept a credit card, so they can accept cash, so they can accept a cheque, so they can accept Bitcoin and so they can accept any form of payment that comes across the counter including future ones and burgeoning ones like Apple Pay.”

Prior to this there were rumors that Apple had initially attempted to acquire Square, but the latter company had ultimately declined Apple’s $3 billion offer. Either way we guess the upsides is that in the future shoppers can look forward to seeing Apple Pay supported by Square registers.
