my-go-gofone-windows-phone-06_storySo we have heard the rumors that Microsoft could be getting ready to drop the Nokia and Windows Phone branding from its future smartphones. The Nokia brand is understandable as the name still belongs to Nokia over in Finland, but to drop Windows Phone? That could be potentially confusing.

Well thanks to the eagle-eyed folks over at Neowin, it certainly seems like that is the case. They have spotted a Windows Phone made by My Go called GoFone GF47W on an unlinked micro website in which images of the upcoming handset were spotted. One of the images, shown above, is of the back portion of the phone in which it just says “Windows” now.

We suppose this makes sense since Microsoft does have plans to unify the operating systems eventually, although we’re not sure when exactly that will be happening or if maybe My Go is getting a little ahead of themselves. It is possible that this could be one of the Microsoft has required of its OEM with newer Windows Phone devices.

In any case what do you guys think? Would branding Windows Phone handsets as “Windows” devices end up being confusing for users? So far it seems that there are some who are petitioning Microsoft to use the “Lumia” brand instead of the “Microsoft” brand on their Windows Phone handsets.
