amazon-fire-stick

The battle for your TV is alive and well. After trying its luck with a set-top box Amazon has now unveiled a new product which is essentially a Google Chromecast rival. It is a streaming stick which connects into an HDMI port and can then stream content from a wide variety of services. It is called the Amazon Fire TV stick and it comes merely seven months after the Fire TV set-top box was announced.

Available content sources on Amazon Fire TV stick include Netflix, Hulu Plus, Spotify, Vevo and many more. Amazon’s own services such as Prime Instant Video are obviously supported. The stick has been priced at $39 but for just two days new and existing Amazon Prime customers can order it for $19 in the U.S.

Initially when the order page for the stick went live is displayed an estimated shipping date of November 19th. Something seems to have changed since then. Placing an order now provides a shipping estimate that goes well into January, 2015.

The listing page for this product on Amazon’s website states that the release date has been pushed back “due to popular demand,” and that any subsequent orders placed will now be expected to ship after January 1st, 2015.

Amazon has not commented on what exactly has caused this delay, we’ll let you know if it issues a statement.
