It hasn’t been long since Apple’s new payments service went live. On Monday, Apple Pay was formally opened up after the iOS 8.1 update brought support for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Since its not even a week old one could expect to see a couple of bugs as it is a new service after all. There have been several reports from people regarding the Apple Pay double charging bug which seems to be popping up particularly when purchases are made with a Bank of America card.

Reports about customers being double charged when using Apple Pay to settle their bills via a Bank of America-issued card are widespread on social media. Even CNN’s Samuel Burke experienced the same when he made purchases with his BoA card through Apple Pay. Burke said in a report that when he opened up his debit card account he found that he had been charged twice for “every purchase I made with Apple Pay.”

Burke tried to resolve this first with BoA which said that this was an Apple Pay bug so he should get in touch with the Cupertino company. Apple said that it couldn’t do anything because for the purposes of security “they keep no records of names or amounts for any transactions.”

He was able to get Bank of America to agree on refunding the double charges after debating it out over an hour and a half with both Apple and BoA on the phone. However the bank is still adamant that this has everything to do with Apple Pay and nothing to do with them, whereas Apple says its ironing out any kinks that may still remain in its new payments service.

So far reports indicate that this bug only acts up when a Bank of America-issued card is used. Have you experienced this on Apple Pay as well using your BoA card, or with a card issued by any other bank?
