asrockmb18-590x330Are you thinking about building your own computer? That’s not too hard these days given the amount of tutorials there are online, not to mention the various forums that you can post your questions to if you run into any trouble. That being said, one of the key components of building your own computer would be the motherboard.

Well if storage is a concern for you, the folks at ASRock have recently unveiled the X99 Extreme 11 motherboard which will come with a whopping 18 SATA ports. This is obviously more than your average motherboard which means that you should be able to connect a multitude of hard drives and/or SSDs to it if you wish, although you’ll probably need to find a chassis that will be able to house that many to begin with.

Ten of the SATA ports will be of the SATA 3 6Gb/s variety while the remaining 8 are of the SAS-3 12GB/s variety. ASRock has also included two M.2 SSD slots, four-way SLI or CrossFire X, five PCIe Gen3 x16 slots, a Gigabit LAN port with Teaming support, eight DDR4 RAM slots, 7.1 HD audio, four USB 3.0 slots, and four USB 2.0 slots.

Unfortunately ASRock has yet to announce the price of the X99 Extreme 11 motherboard yet, but given its specs, chances are it will most likely be targeted at power users and will most probably be priced towards the higher-end of motherboards, but what do you guys think? Is 18 SATA ports overkill?
