AT&T Tower

You might see the words AT&T and Passport in a lot of headlines today but don’t think it has anything to do with BlackBerry Passport, the Canadian company’s latest flagship smartphone, which is destined for AT&T at some point in the near future. The carrier today announced new international packages under the Passport brand. For use in more than 150 countries AT&T says these plans offer “best-ever value” for folks traveling abroad.

The AT&T Passport packages have been designed for international travel from one to 30 days. They can be added to the domestic postpaid plan. All plans offer unlimited messaging, including text, picture and video messaging, though content will count against data cap.

Subscribers will also be able to enjoy unlimited Wi-Fi access at selected hotspots in a handful of countries which includes Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, France and Germany.

There are three plans called Passport, Passport Plus and Passport Pro carrying one-time charge of $30, $60 and $120 respectively. Subscribers get 120 MB, 300 MB and 800 MB cellular data on these three plans with $.25/MB, $.20/MB and $.15/MB cellular data overage charges, respectively. Talk rates on these plans are $1/min, $.50/min and $.35/min.

AT&T Passport plans are available for purchase starting today. Since they carry a one-time charge and are only valid for 30 days, the plans will expire automatically and subscribers won’t have to cancel once they’re back home from their trip.
