If you have owned a smartphone for a while now, chances are games like Fruit Ninja are probably familiar to you as it was one of the first few touch-based games released back in the day. Safe to say that the Fruit Ninja franchise is a bit old, so you can imagine we were happy to hear that a major overhaul was in the works.

The good news for Fruit Ninja fans is that it looks like the update has since been released. Instead of merely slicing fruit, Halfbrick has added gear to the game that will allow gamers to pull off even greater combinations than before. This will add a degree of complexity to the otherwise simple and straightforward game.

According to the description, “Blades and Dojos in the game now add a unique twist to gameplay. Bonus powers, extra time, fresh surprises – everything changes the game, so experiment with your favorite combinations and take your score to a whole new level!” Halfbrick has also introduced two new characters to the game – Katsuro and Mari who will be joining the other characters in the game.

The developers have also given the UI a refresh by taking away the menus. Instead everything will be accessible right from the get-go which will hopefully speed things up a bit. The updated version of Fruit Ninja is available on both iOS and Android so if you’d like to get your hands on it, head on over to your respective app stores for the download!
