Things are heating up in the shopping space and Google is there for its piece of the pie. Over a year ago it launched Google Shopping Express with an aim to make it easier for people to shop from local stores easily and quickly online, with the products being delivered on the very same day. Today the company announced that this service is being expanded to more cities and that now it has a new name. The service will henceforth be known as Google Express and today it expands to Chicago, Boston and Washington, D.C.

Previously Google Shopping Express only used to cover parts of California and Now York. Google now says that across all the cities this service is available over seven million people can use it, with more than 12 million people in Northern California being able to use the next-day delivery service.

In addition to changing the name a bit and bringing Google Express to three new cities, the company has also added more merchants to this service. National brands such as 1-800-Flowers, Barnes & Noble, Sports Authority, PetSmart and Nine West are in, as well as regional merchants like Stop & Shop in Boston and Wrigleyville Sports in Chicago.

Starting today interested folks can become Google Express members for either $95 per year or $10 per month. They will get free same-day delivery or overnight delivery on eligible orders over $15 and ability to share the membership with a household member. Its also possible to pay a flat $4.99 fee per order without having to become a Google Express member.
