master-chief-collection-for-xbox-one

We reported yesterday that folks who purchase the retail disc edition of Halo: The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One will have to download a 20GB day one patch before they can use the multiplayer features. The patch can be downloaded in the background while Xbox One owners go through the campaign mode but in order to access multiplayer they will need to download the patch. 343 Industries, the developer of this title, has now apologized for making users download this mammoth of a patch.

Since campaign modes of Halo 1-4 take up the entire 45GB disc space on retail edition of Halo: The Master Chief Collection there’s simply no space to put in the multiplayer mode and other features. This is why the patch is required as it brings those features.

The franchise development director for Halo at 343 Industries, Frank O’Connor, writes in a post on the NeoGAF forums that he understands the “inconvenience and annoyance” this will cause gamers. O’Connor has apologized “unreservedly for the irritance,” hoping that the package and the way it works makes up for this irritance.

One may ask just why didn’t they use two discs instead of making gamers download 20GB worth of content? O’Connor says that this wasn’t practical for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, “this year in this line.”
