ios8adoptionnumbersWhen iOS 7 was launched, it was met with some criticisms by those who didn’t really like the design. However preference for aesthetics aside, it was a good update and introduced a host of new features to the iOS platform. It was also adopted at a fairly fast rate, which unfortunately cannot be said about iOS 8.

According to earlier reports, iOS 8’s adoption appeared to be slower than iOS 7, but presumably that number would change over time. However according to Apple’s App Store support page for developers (via MacRumors), it looks like the numbers have not changed by much.

As you can see in the pie chart above, iOS 8 is currently sitting at 47%. It was previously reported to have been sitting at 47%, meaning that we have only seen a 1% increase from last month which does not seem particularly encouraging. However some have speculated that the recent issues regarding the various bugs that hit iOS 8 could be the reason why some people are holding off.

Apple has also recently stopped signing for iOS 7, meaning that users who want to downgrade would not be able to, which could also explain why many are still holding on to iOS 7. While iOS 8 did introduce new features and improvements, we guess it’s a less dramatic change compared to iOS 6 to iOS 7, but hopefully over time iOS 8’s adoption will be able to hit the same numbers as iOS 7 did prior to iOS 8’s release.
