lg-g3-phone-012A few years ago, LG probably wasn’t that well-known for their smartphones. They did release a few smartphones but they never really took off, and it’s safe to say that things have really turned around for the South Korean company with the launch of the LG G3 earlier this year, so much so that it has been reported that LG has managed to double their profits.

According to LG, they have announced that they managed to double their profits to $440 million from the same time a year ago. This represents a 39% year-on-year increase in what is considered to be LG’s best quarter in five years. The company also revealed that they had managed to sell 16.8 million smartphones in Q3 2014 which is a pretty impressive feat.

The company’s mobile division recorded $4.14 billion in sales with an overall operating profit of $163.16 million, which is thanks not only to the LG G3, but to the company’s budget and mid-range offerings as well, such as their L-series of smartphones which packs some pretty decent specs along with relatively affordable price tags.

Of course many are wondering LG will be able to repeat their performance come 2015 where presumably the successor to the LG G3 will be announced, but we guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime what do you guys think of LG’s performance? Do you think the company will eventually be able to catch up to the likes of Samsung?
