It has been a while since Google formally announced Android 5.0 Lollipop, the next iteration of its mobile operating system that was first shown off back at the I/O 2014 conference. In the near future this update will be released for Google’s Nexus devices after which Google Play Edition devices will be next in line. It appears that the LG G3 might be one of the first new flagships that will receive the update after GPE edition devices.

Many manufacturers have already confirmed Android 5.0 Lollipop release roadmap for some of their devices, these manufacturers include Motorola and HTC. LG has joined the list though it has only confirmed for now that the update will be made available on the G3 and the G2.

For the LG G3, the company’s German branch revealed through its official Facebook page that the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be released in the fourth quarter of this year. Within this timeframe it means that the release shouldn’t take more than a few weeks.

As far as the LG G2 is concerned it is said that the update for last year’s flagship “will follow.” Most likely this means that G2 owners will have to wait until 2015 in order to get a taste of Lollipop on their devices.
