heineken_sub_by_marc_newson_dezeen_468c_0As many Apple fans are aware of by now, designer Marc Newson has a new job at Apple. Newson will be working alongside his friend and collaborator Jony Ive, although it seems like it will be on a part-time basis and as when needed. That being said, Newson has recently taken the wraps off the design of a beer machine.

This was made in collaboration with Heineken and Krups that will allow beer lovers to get their hands on a draft beer machine designed for use at home. Dubbed The Sub, Newson has offered up the analogy that it is like the Nespresso for beer. “This is a brand new experience, it’s a brand new type of object. The obvious and easy analogy would be Nespresso.”

The Sub will be able to house two litres of beer called Torps. It will be able to contain a variety of different brews from Heineken’s collection of brands. According to Newson, “It’s not only about beer, it’s also about the greater experience of drinking beer. Of course we want this object to look good, but this is not something that we wanted people to have to endure in order to have fresh beer.”

The first units of The Sub will be made available this autumn in a silver finish, but for those hankering after the black version (pictured above), it seems that this is a limited edition model only available in France and Italy. Pricing was not mentioned, but does anyone else think that it looks like someone turned the Mac Pro on its side and slapped a tap onto it?
