One thing many are trying to tackle these days is bringing over keyboards to wearable devices. Usually voice input is considered the best method of interacting with a smartwatch when the need arises to send a text message, email or write in an app but there are third party solutions available. For example Minuum was one of the first to bring over a keyboard for Android Wear. Microsoft has joined the fray as well with its new keyboard for Android Wear.
This isn’t Microsoft’s first piece of software for Google’s relatively new wearable devices platform. Last month the company launched a version of its OneNote app just for Android Wear so it has certainly made up its mind to support this platform at least for now.
Microsoft calls its new creation an analog keyboard for Android Wear. Its a prototype at this point in time but nevertheless it is capable of allowing users to enter text by drawing handwritten letters on the watch’s display.
The first version of this keyboard only supports square screen smartwatches with 320×320 resolution as well as the Motorola Moto 360. It is available as a free download from Microsoft’s website complete with instructions on how to install it on your Android Wear smartwatch.
