It is understandable as to why some people might not appreciate Google Glass. Unlike a camera or smartphone, recording or photographing with Google Glass is not as obvious, and safe to say people do not enjoy having themselves secretly recorded or photographed. This is why the device has been banned in some bars, Las Vegas where there are a lot of casinos, and by some movie theater chains.
Now previously it came down to the discretion of the business owners as to whether they want to allow Google Glass wearers onto their premises, but according to a report from Variety, it looks like it could soon become official. The MPAA and the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) have updated their policy that will now ban Google Glass wearers or those owning wearables into their theaters.
According to a joint statement released by both groups, “As has been our long-standing policy, all phones must be silenced and other recording devices, including wearable devices, must be turned off and put away at show time. Individuals who fail or refuse to put the recording devices away may be asked to leave.“
Earlier this year, a man was accosted by FBI agents while watching Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit at an AMC Theatres location in Columbus, Ohio. He was questioned by the agents as to whether he was illegally recording the movie which he wasn’t, but hopefully with this new policy in place, it will make things a little clearer now.
