nintendo-new-3ds-2014-11A few months ago, Nintendo announced new Nintendo 3DS & 3DS XL handheld consoles. With the slightly upgraded specs and with the addition of a new control, it certainly looks like Nintendo has made the console a little more desirable, especially for those who were still on the fence regarding the console.

That being said if you were thinking about getting your hands on it, you will be disappointed to learn that Nintendo has delayed the release of the new consoles for both the US and European markets. The console was released in Japan this month and according to Nintendo, they have since managed to sell 234,000 units so far.

However it seems that the delay of the console for the US and European markets is due to the lack of popularity. According to Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata, “To the contrary, neither of the cumulative sales figures of Nintendo 3DS in the U.S. nor Europe is more than that in Japan. Based on these observations, some might wonder if, apart from the domestic market, the sales of Nintendo 3DS will really be able to gain momentum in the overseas markets.”

Interestingly enough it seems that Nintendo has chosen to launch the new 3DS in Australia later this year, so we guess if you absolutely have to have it and you want an English version of the console, perhaps getting one imported from Australia should do the trick. That or you could always wait until next year.
