Sony-G-Series-XQD-version-2-memory-cardsBeing a professional photographer means that not only will your camera and lens will have to be of the good quality, but there are other accessories that need to be taken into account as well, such as your memory cards. While most of us can get away with average or cheap memory cards, professionals might require something a little better.

Well if you’re the proud owner of a Nikon D4 or D4S DSLR camera, you might be interested to learn that Sony has quietly announced a new G Series XQD range of memory cards that can be used for your cameras. According to Sony, these new cards will be able to offer up 400MB/s read speeds and 350MB/s write speeds.

They will also come in storage sizes ranging 32GB up to 128GB, although the latter will cost you a fair amount of money at around $800. Sony’s G Series of XQD cards also offer a huge boost in performance compared to their S Series and N series, and will also outperform Lexar’s XQD memory cards which at the moment are only available in sizes up to 64GB with around 168MB/s read speeds.

The new G Series XQD memory cards from Sony are expected to begin shipping on the 3rd of November, so for photographers who don’t mind splashing a bit of money on the new cards, you can head on over to B&H or Adorama to place your pre-orders.
