When Sony announced the RX100-series of compact cameras, they made quite a fair bit of waves. After all compact cameras weren’t known to sport large sensors and somehow Sony had managed to squeeze in a 1-inch sensor into a tiny body. As expected Sony’s competitors sure weren’t going to sit back and let them hog all the fun.
Canon has announced a similar-ish camera in the form of the PowerShot G7 X and if you were wondering which camera might end up being a better choice for you, the folks at TheCameraStoreTV have recently put together a video in which they compared the Sony RX100 MK III against the Canon PowerShot G7 X.
Given that both cameras are the latest in either company’s compact camera lineup, it seems like a pretty fair comparison. Both cameras also feature roughly the same amount of megapixels and both cameras start at 24mm at its widest with an aperture of f/1.8. However if there is one area in which the PowerShot G7 X trumps the RX100 MK III is its range where it can zoom to 100mm while maintaining an aperture of f/2.8, versus the RX100 MK III’s 70mm max zoom.
Of course whether or not you need that zoom really boils down to your needs, preferences, and probably pricing. From what we can tell in the video, both cameras performed pretty well and have their fair share flaws, but if you’re curious as to how they perform, check out the video above for the comparison.
