zelectric-bugLike water and oil, old cars as well as all-electric drivetrains do not mix. Of course, this is but a general rule, and as we all know too well, rules are meant to be broken, as the saying goes, although this particular rule would only work best within certain enclosed systems. Having said that, here is a pretty cool idea that has been fleshed out, where it is known as the ZelectricBug.

The humble Volkswagen, as we all know, is also called the Beetle. It has an iconic design which has been somewhat retained in the late 20th and early 21st century models, although the automotive world will continue to pay homage to the original design. Basically, ZelectricBug intends to turn a classic Volkswagen Beetle from the ’58-’66 era and convert them over to an all-electric drivetrain. In other words, this effort will see the vintage looks remain, while the drivetrain itself would be future forward.

It is said that the range of the classic Beetle would hit somewhere in the region of 80 to 110 miles, while being able to enjoy a top speed of more than 90mph, alongside the benefit of ceramic heaters. Not only that, ZelectricBug claims that they are capable of doing the modification while maintaining its exteriors and interiors to look original.
