According to the IDC’s quarterly PC tracker, it has been revealed that Apple has managed to hit its highest PC market share ever, and this is not taking the iPad into account.

Instead IDC’s metrics only take into account Mac shipments and according to the latest figures, Apple currently commands about 13.4% of the US PC market. According to the IDC, this makes Apple the third-largest PC seller in the US, putting them behind the likes of HP and Dell and edging out Lenovo ever so slightly.

IDC senior analyst Jay Chou commented that Apple’s steady momentum in the PC market is due to consumers starting to become more comfortable using Apple’s products. It also helped that Apple has started to make their products, like the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, a bit more affordable than what they used to be.

These numbers reflect what Apple’s CEO Tim Cook had to say during an investor’s call where he was quoted as saying, “We’re especially proud of our Mac results considering the overall contraction of the global PC market this year. And we achieved our highest quarterly market share since 1995.” Of course we reckon it will be a while until Apple catches up with HP or Dell as both companies have more than a 10% lead on them, but slow and steady wins the race, right?
