Say you’re going on holiday for a couple of weeks and no one’s going to be home. This makes it an ideal target for burglars who might not want to take the risk of robbing a house if the occupants are going to be home or will be coming home. Now there are ways to deter burglars, which is to have a friend or family member house sit for you.

You could also install lights that will turn on/off at intervals to make it look like you’re home, but if you wanted something a little more “smart”, the BeON smart light bulb could be worth checking out. Not only does the light bulb activate in intervals, but it will also be smart enough to learn your habits so that it will turn on/off as if you were there.

It will also be able to listen to your doorbell, so if someone was trying to see if you’re home, the lights would go on when they ring the bell, which in turn could deter burglars who are simply scouting out possible targets. BeON’s bulbs will also be able to react the a smoke detector’s sounds and will help guide users in the event of a fire.

Unfortunately as is the case with most smart light bulbs, the BeON isn’t cheap. It is currently a Kickstarter project seeking funding where those interested can pledge $199-$269 to get themselves 3 bulbs, or $395-$535 if you’re looking for 6 bulbs. Like we said it’s not cheap but if security is your priority, then perhaps these could be a good investment.
