dawngateIn terms of MOBAs, there are a few that gamers can choose from right now, such as League of Legends, DotA 2, Heroes of Newerth, Heroes of the Storm, and there are some who are still playing the original DotA despite all these years. So when EA announced Dawngate last year, safe to say they were entering a very competitive scene.

So much so that EA has decided that perhaps launching Dawngate might not be such a good idea after all. According to a recent post on the Dawngate website, EA has announced that they will be cancelling the game after it has been in open beta for the past six months. The game was released in closed beta back in 2013 before progressing into an open beta.

According to Matt Bromberg, EA’s group general manager that oversaw the game, “Through that time, we’ve taken a lot of feedback from players and delivered lots of new features and innovations. And although the game has grown, we’re not seeing the progress we’d hoped for. This isn’t the outcome we wanted, but beta testing is about learning and improving, and ultimately, about making difficult decisions about how to proceed.”

Gamers who have spent money on the game are expected to be refunded, with the refunds to be processed in the next 10 days. The game is also expected to remain in operations for the next 90 days so if you’re wondering what all the fuss is about and want to know if the cancellation might be justified, head on over to its website for the details.
