googlemessengerfull-630x370Heads up Android users, if you have yet to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop but you want access to some of its new apps and features, you’re in luck. You might have heard not too long ago that one of the new apps introduced in the update is called Messenger. This is an app dedicated to SMS/MMS.

Prior to this, Google Hangouts would pull double duty which admittedly got a bit confusing when users were trying to determine which messages were text messages, and which were Hangout messages. That being said, Google has since released the Messenger app meaning that users who want to get their hands on it will be able to do so without need an update to Android 5.0.

Like we said, the Messenger app is dedicated to SMS and MMS messages. It will also allow for group messaging and users will also be able to send audio messages. It has also been designed in the flavor of Google’s Material Design language, so if you’re looking for more Material Design apps to populate your phone with, this should do the trick.

If you like what you see and wouldn’t mind getting your hands on, head on over to the Google Play Store for the download. In the meantime Google has recently released the factory images for the Nexus devices, so users who don’t want to wait and go ahead and manually install the Android 5.0 update themselves which should include the Messenger app as well.
