google-news-weather-notification-center-widgetWith iOS 8, Apple finally brought widgets onto iOS which can be accessed by swiping down on your screen and opening Notification Center. There are a few different widgets you can choose from and if you’re the type that likes to see what news is hot, you might want to get your hands on the updated Google News & Weather app. The app was released last month but it has recently been updated with a news widget for Notification Center.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the widget will basically add a bunch of news stories and headlines to your Notification Center. This lets you check out the latest news at a glance without having to open an app and wait for it to load. The news will be sourced from all sorts of publications including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, The Globe and Mail, MetroNews, and so on.

If you want to check out the entire story, all you’d have to do is tap the link and it will open up within the Google News & Weather app where you can read it in full. Unfortunately the widget does not include detailed weather information so you will have to either launch the app itself to check out the weather report, or rely on a different app to provide you with your weather updates.

The app is a free download and the latest update is available, so if you haven’t updated or have yet to download the app, you can do so by heading on over to the iTunes App Store for the download!
