A couple of months ago we reported that Blizzard’s MOBA Heroes of the Storm would be entering the last phase of its technical alpha, which also means that we could be looking forward to a beta soon. Well the good news is that a beta is indeed on its way, as revealed by Blizzard during BlizzCon 2014.

According to the developers, Blizzard will be entering into a closed beta come January 13 2015, so that is something that gamers can look forward to. Blizzard also revealed additional features of the game, such as new heroes which would add the likes of Thrall and Jaina from the Warcraft franchise, as well as the Lost Vikings which are characters from one of Blizzard’s earlier titles.

The beta will also introduce new maps to the game – Sky Temple and Tomb of the Spider Queen. The former will put players in a desert-like environment in which heroes will have to fight turrets defending an Egyptian-like structure, while Tomb of the Spider Queen will send players underground to a dungeon environment, both of which admittedly has a bit of a Diablo 3 feel to it.

In any case if you have a few minutes to spare, you can check out the new Heroes of the Storm feature trailer above which shows off the new heroes and battlegrounds that gamers can look forward to, and if you’d like to participate in the beta, just pop on over to Blizzard’s website to sign up for it.
