google-nexus-9-hands-on-8Yesterday HTC made a surprising announcement in which they announced that the Nexus 9 tablet would be going on sale for half its asking price. Given that the tablet is new, it was a surprise as these flash sales tend to be reserved for older products that manufacturers are trying to get rid off quickly.

That being said if you weren’t quick on the trigger, you probably missed out on the sale, but then again so did many people which led to a lot of outrage. The outrage came not only from the fact that there were so limited units available, but it was extremely hard to make the purchase as HTC’s servers simply could not handle all the traffic.

HTC America’s president Jason Mackenzie has since issued a statement of apology where he attempted to clear up the situation for their customers. “I understand that our site did not function properly and caused frustration – and for that I apologize. With such a hot deal and short time to take advantage, the experience needs to be seamless. Our team is rectifying the systems issues that some experienced and we remain committed to bring you an exciting cadence of offers throughout holidays.”

HTC is expected to hold weekly promotions, although we’re not sure if the subsequent promotions will be as enticing as a half-off Nexus 9 tablet, but either way hopefully HTC has this under control and that future promotions will be less messy.
