htc-one-review-m8-labshot-27When it comes to rolling out operating system updates to a smartphone, plenty of it hinges on the manufacturer of the handset itself. The Nexus family of devices tend to get the latest version of Android first before the rest, while HTC, with the original intention of updating their HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) Google Play Editions to Android 5.0 Lollipop from early this week has hit a snag – with the delay postponing the Lollipop release to this Friday at the earliest .

HTC’s VP of Product Management, @moversi, tweeted, “Hi Marty, got delayed – new target is Friday. Working aggressively to get it out as quickly as possible. Thanks. Mo”. The new target would be this coming Friday, and if that happens to be spot on, then the delay is not all that long, so there is no need to lose any sleep over the delay, I guess. After all, how many devices out there have already received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update? Not many, really.

Needless to say, those who happen to use vanilla versions of the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) would have to wait until February next year, as that is when the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is tipped to be released.
