A few days back Apple released iOS 8.1.1 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The new software update brings bug fixes and performance improvements, particularly for older devices like the iPhone 4S. Those who updated to iOS 8.1.1 and now wait for a jailbreak to be available can get their hopes up. An iOS 8.1.1 untethered jailbreak has been previewed on video, even though it hasn’t been mentioned when a release can be expected.

The video shows the work on iH8Sn0w and XanderKitteh, a team of good iOS hackers, who seem to have achieved untethered jailbreak on iOS 8.1.1 with just one caveat.

They explain that this jailbreak is limited to older iOS devices that have the 30-pin dock connector as opposed to the Lightning port. This limitation is due to no serial over Lightning port but this doesn’t mean it won’t ever be compatible with newer devices. They’ll just have to put more work into it so that it is capable of running on newer devices as well.

Recent updates on the jailbreak front have been coming from a Chinese team called Pangu which has released an iOS 8.1 untethered jailbreak that works with devices touting Lightning ports. As far as this iOS 8.1.1 untethered jailbreak is concerned it might be released to the public at some point but right now they’re not confirming exactly when it will be released.
