windows-98-iphone-6-plus-1

This really is as absurd as this sounds. Apparently a Chinese hacker has been able to run Windows 98 on an iPhone 6 Plus. It is not known exactly how he managed to do this. It can also not be independently confirmed whether the device is actually an iPhone 6 Plus  or a clone, because one can easily find such a knockoff down in the People’s Republic.

For argument’s sake let us consider for a moment that this really is an iPhone 6 Plus. So now the question would be how did this hacker manage to run this outdated operating system on this smartphone? Smart money would be on a script-based emulation of Windows 98.

If it is an emulation then its pretty good, because in the photos we can even see Chinese menus. Moreover, it even has a functioning start button. Unfortunately the hacker hasn’t cleared this up so we’re pretty much in the dark.

Windows 98 was released a long time back and looking at it now evokes a strong sense of nostalgia. The iPhone 6 Plus probably has more computing power than most commonly available computers of that time so it has to be some kind of software trickery that enables Windows 98 to run on a device it is clearly not meant for.

This isn’t the only crazy experiment concerning Windows that we have seen recently. One gentleman was able to get Windows 95 up and running on a Samsung Gear Live smartwatch.
