iphone 6 camera

Its a bit early for next generation iPhone rumors give that it has barely been a couple of months since Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. But when has timing ever stopped the rumor mill? Word on the street is that the next iPhone is going to make the “biggest camera jump ever,” presumably Apple is going to significantly improve the camera technology in its smartphones, but you should take this with a grain of salt for now.

This claim was made by Daring Fireball’s John Gruber in a recent podcast episode. His source is a “birdie of a birdie” who explained that the camera module in the next generation iPhone will have a “kind of weird two-lens system where the back camera uses two lenses and it somehow takes it up into DSLR-quality imagery.”

While the “DSLR-quality imagery” claim might be a bit too much to digest there’s nothing new about a two-lens system. We saw something similar in the HTC One (M8) earlier this year, this smartphone has an extra lens on the back which captures more image data and also enables post-processed focus shifts.

Nevertheless one can expect Apple to make improvements to the camera technology in the iPhones that will be released next year, Apple often highlights just how better the camera is in its smartphones as opposed to rivals, so we should expect improvements even if they’re not exactly going to venture into DSLR territory.
