You might have seen our report from last week on Microsoft’s latest move to bring Office to all. The company decided to open up editing features for all mobile users without requiring them to subscribe to Office 365. Previously users on iOS could only view documents with the free Office apps, for editing and additional features they needed a subscription. Since one is no longer required, Microsoft is now offering refunds to Office 365 users on iOS.

Certain advanced features still require an Office 365 subscription for it is no longer needed for editing, which is why users who have a subscription can now request a pro-rated refund for leftover subscription time. For “Personal” edition the Office 365 subscription on iPad cost $70 per year, and the price went up to $100 per year for the “Home” edition.

Microsoft will accept claims until January 31st of next year for users who purchased a subscription either on or after March 27th, 2014. Access to additional OneDrive storage will be blocked once refund is granted so subscribers are advised to move their data first.

Those users who purchase a subscription from the App Store will need to get in touch with iTunes support for their refund. Those who subscribed from Microsoft or an authorized reseller can contact Microsoft support. A proof of purchase is required and Microsoft has the right to refuse refund if it believes the proof is not sufficient. If approved, refunds can take between six to eight weeks to arrive.
