At the Samsung Developer Conference, which kicked off yesterday, the company announced Flow. Samsung Flow is a feature that will be exclusive to the company’s own smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and TVs. Think of it like the Handoff/Continuity features that Apple introduced for Mac and iOS devices. The idea behind Flow is essentially the same, which is to make it easier for users to effortlessly handoff content between their different devices.

Samsung breaks down Flow in three components: Transfer, Defer and Notify. Transfer hardly needs an explanation. This component allows users to transfer content from one Samsung device to another quickly with just a couple of taps.

Defer allows users to pause an activity on one device and pick up where they left off on another. So it could be a movie that you’re watching on a smartphone that you pick up later on the TV or a spreadsheet you’re editing on a tablet that you continue working on through the PC.

Last but not the least, Notification will push alerts and device status updates to connected devices. For example, it can push status update about the device’s battery to the TV, and can do the same with an incoming call notification.

Samsung has also said that developers will be able to integrate Flow into their applications, but it didn’t say when this feature will be launched and which devices will be compatible with it.
