iPhone-6-review-12

Now this is one rumor that’s going to ring a lot of bells. Throughout this year we kept hearing that the iPhone 6 is going to come with a sapphire display. In September when Apple unveiled both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus it made no mention of sapphire in the display. Now though it is being rumored that the next generation iPhone, not due for nearly an entire year, is going to have a sapphire display.

The reason why iPhone 6 doesn’t have a sapphire display was recently detailed in a report. Apple’s supplier GT Advanced Technology wasn’t quite capable enough to keeping up with Apple’s sapphire demands. The sapphire blocks it did produce were not up to the company’s quality requirements which is why the plan probably had to be scrapped for iPhone 6.

Now though reports claim Apple might look towards Foxconn, its long time manufacturing partner, to help out here as well. Foxconn is reportedly building a display factory in Zhengzhou, China where it will manufacture sapphire displays for the next generation iPhone.

Only last week it was reported that Foxconn is also going to open up a new plant in Taiwan that will be dedicated to the manufacturing of displays for the iPhone.

Foxconn is certainly capable enough for this undertaking though it remains to be seen whether the sapphire displays that it makes are up to Apple’s standards. If the arrangement works out who knows, perhaps we really might see sapphire displays in the next generation iPhone.
