child-injury-phoneWhile we are not exactly living in an environment where there are the walking dead all around, this does not mean that there are no “zombies” around us. Take a look around you the next time you are at a busy intersection, waiting to cross the road. How many people are walking with their eyes glued to the handset? Well, I suppose that habit has also trickled down to children, as a study by Yale graduate student Craig Palsson has identified the iPhone as the primary culprit in a 10% increase in injuries in children who are aged five and below.

This new study links the iPhone alongside AT&T’s 3G network’s growth in new cities, with Palsson forming a causal relationship between Apple’s hugely popular smartphone with that of an increase in injuries. What was most notable were the dramatic increase of injuries in small children, as this group tend to need a whole lot more supervision from parents and guardians. Apparently, the parents or guardians seem to be a whole lot more preoccupied with playing games or using their smartphone without giving full and total attention to their children when they are playing in the playground or running around, hence not being able to spot the potential dangers of a place beforehand. What do you think of this study, does it hold water?
