The Windows Phone 8.1 update, otherwise known as the Lumia Cyan update for Nokia’s devices, took its sweet time in arriving on one of the most popular WP smartphones on T-Mobile but it is finally here. Following last week’s release of said update on Nokia Lumia 925, T-Mobile has now released Windows Phone 8.1 for Nokia Lumia 521. The 521 is a budget friendly device which become popular due to its respectable specifications and low price.

The release was confirmed by Windows Phone exec at Microsoft, Joe Belfiore, who tweeted that T-Mobile subscribers rocking a Lumia 521 can now download the Cyan/Windows Phone 8.1 update on their devices. Belfiore has also confirmed the release for Lumia 925.

Windows Phone 8.1 for Lumia 521 is being rolled out over the air. To download this update head on over to the settings app and tap on phone update. Then tapping on “check for update” will make the device search for available updates, and that’s when WP8.1 will pop up. It weighs in around 320MB so the update shouldn’t take that long to download if you’re on a good internet connection.

Apart from bringing everything that comes as part and parcel of Windows Phone 8.1, this update also adds support for free inflight texting over Wi-Fi on flights equipped with GoGo internet.
